Another country in the European Union has now decided to introduce compulsory daytime running lights. From October 1, 2005 all cars in Austria must drive with their lights on even during the day. Osram offers appropriate headlight lamps to upgrade all vehicles from cars to trucks.

Daytime running light is now mandatory in almost 20 European countries, either at certain times of the year or at all times. Other countries recommend daytime running light, thereby supporting this European initiative for greater safety by driving on dipped headlights during the day.

Since the launch of the Light@Day generation of lamps from Osram, having headlights on permanently is no longer a problem. This is because their innovative technology and long life means they do not have to be replaced any more often than ordinary lamps.

Replace lamps in pairs

Drivers should to upgrade to daytime running light as soon as their current lamps fail. Lamps should always be replaced in pairs to prevent a succession of failures. Drivers often overlook the fact that the taillights, parking lights and number plate lights also have more work to do because these lamps are linked to the headlight circuit. Osram therefore also offers the Light@Day versions of these lamps, with longer lives than corresponding standard lamps.

Drivers of large campers, buses and trucks should choose Truckstar headlight lamps for daytime running light. Not only do these lamps last twice as long as ordinary lamps, they have the added bonus for campers and truckers of almost 100% higher illuminance in the crucial area 50 to 75 metres in front of the vehicle. The following general information applies to all road users: Daytime running light reduces the risk of accidents significantly. This is because

  • cars can be seen better on shaded country roads;
  • drivers can judge the distance of oncoming cars better;
  • vehicles can be better identified as driving straight on or turning.
