"If you like to ski, save energy - switch over to climate protection"

OSRAM and the ski resorts of Kitzbühel, Hochgurgl and Obergurgl join forces to combat global warming

Beginning of February, 2008 OSRAM is launching a climate campaign together with the ski resorts of Kitzbühel, Hochgurgl and Obergurgl in which every skier and snowboarder can play an active part. All they have to do is return the lift pass and exchange the deposit on the pass for energy-saving lamps. Using these lamps instead of ordinary light bulbs leads to a reduction in CO2 emissions and therefore protects the climate and the snow in the Alps. The promotion is accompanied by a media campaign, developed by Springer & Jacoby, organized and mounted by MediaMountain, which will run until March 31, 2008.

Energy-saving lamps from OSRAM achieve energy savings of up to 80 percent. A 14 W energy-saving lamp for example is just as bright as a 75 W light bulb but saves 135 kg of CO2 over its entire life. This is as much as a medium size automobile emits over a journey of around 650 miles, which is three times the distance from Munich to Kitzbühel and back.

"Climate change represents a major challenge for all of us. The campaign in Kitzbühel shows how each and every one of us can help protect the climate simply by using energy-efficient lighting systems. I am an enthusiastic skier myself and am very pleased to be doing something positive to keep the snow in our mountains", said Martin Goetzeler, CEO of OSRAM.

Dr. Georg Hechenberger, CFO/CMO of Kitzbühel, said: "The resorts are very much aware of the impact of climate change and want to play a leading role in informing the public on the consequences and motivate action." The Bergbahn AG Kitzbühel is priced as a leading company for sustainable business management.
