OSRAM won an order for the design and the visualization of the floodlights at the Tegelberg, Schwangau.
Besides the floodlights for the Adler and Reith ski lifts, the order also included the engineering for the illumination of a 2 km cross-country track underneath the Neuschwanstein castle.

The Lighting installation
Using computer-aided illuminance calculations, it was possible to define the coordinates with regard to the required luminous intensity, blinding restriction and color characteristics of the light sources. Based on these results the volumes of light masts and headlights were defined. Requirements for the illumination level for sports facilities are defined in the European standard EN 12193 “Illumination of sport facilities”.
For the floodlight system in the area of Reith lift and Adler lift asymmetric radiator systems with light source high-intensity discharge lamps 2000W were specified.

Visualization
In addition to the planning work, OSRAM created a visualization model of the ski coursen to assist the investors in their decision-making process, which supported a very realistic rating of the project. Calculations of the floodlight masts were based on aerial views, which were imported with corresponding software and processed in a second step.
By means of the light calculation software DIALUX various assembling alternatives could be calculated.
The software tool is suitable for providing a visual basis for decision-making.
